Click here to listen to The Beatles - Help

New Possible artists:

We have been researching further into unsigned bands to try and find one which we are comfortable in using and one that would be suitable for our music video. The artists below are some that we found intriguing and had a nice sound to them:

Lucy Rose- All I’ve Got

We thought this song was very touching, and found Lucy Rose’s voice very beautiful, which is why we are considering her to be an artist that we may use for our music video.

Houka Monks – Strange things

I am particularly interested in this song, it is by a band called the Houka Monks, I think their sound is quite original. I have sent this band an email asking their permission to use their music for our music video and am currently awaiting a reply from them.

Possible artists for our music video:

Me and My Partner Ruby Pearce, had ideas of using ‘The Cutaway’ as the band for our Music Video, we considered using both these songs:

The Cutaway - Golden Opportunities

We decided not to use this song because we found that the lyrics were quite difficult to put a plot to; we therefore decided it would be best not to use this song.

The Cutaway- Pictures in the Dark

Although we thought the lyrics to this song were perfect for some of the ideas that we could use in our music video, the tune itself was dull and quite boring, and therefore we decided not to use this band at all, as these two videos were in our opinion, the best the band had to offer.

Video i find interesting 3: The Prodigy- Warrior Dance

The Prodigy- Warrior Dance

This video by The Prodigy – Warrior Dance; is a work of art. The human like puppets are made from cigarette packets, which are branded with several different Prodigy logos, that represent the three members of The Prodigy.  I think the relation to the characters in the video, work well with the title of the single, as well as making it creative and artistic. The low key lighting and fast cuts increase the drama. The mise en scene echoes the electronica and rave genre, set in a pub with other cigarette packets, starting a rave, and eventually causing a fire on the table top, the three ‘band members’ disappear and leave the others to burn on the table; suggesting that raves are dangerous events, and possibly giving their audience an underlying warning message. At the end of the video, there are cigarette packets which show the message ‘Smoking is harmful to your health’ in Ukrainian. The video won the award for best music video at ‘Rushes So Shorts Film Festival in 2009.

Video's i find interesting 2: Fujiya & Miyagi- Ankle Injuries

This music video is called Fujiya & Miyagi- Ankle Injuries; this video is made entirely from thousands of six sided dice and pixelated pin art- It was done by hand; similarly to the Hondas advert ‘The cog’:

I find the video amazingly creative, but also fits with the music.  The clip varies from black and white, to bright contrast and colours; this makes it quite a fun and enjoyable video to watch.

Video's i find interesting 1: Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death

A Music video I find very interesting is ‘Clubbed to Death ’ by Rob Dougan, an australian composer who blends genres of music. He mixes blues, electronic and orchestral music to create songs such as this one; which was based on Chopin’s Prelude No. 4 in E- minor, which was used in the classic film ‘Amazing Mr X’:

Although this song was Rob Dugan’s breakthrough single released in 1995, it was further popularized by ‘The Matrix’ soundtrack in 1995, and was then re-released seven years prior to its initial release.

(暗闇(くらやみ)- Kurayamino Variation

The song is also known as ‘Kurayamino Variation’ which is translated into Japanese for ‘Darkness’s variation’ Dougan was inspired by ‘dark’ Japanese writers and therefore Dougan has used his own creation in a tragic way.

Although it is an instrumental piece, this piece still intrigues me. I am a fan of the matrix films, and that may have influenced me to pick this video. However the video shows a dystopia world of giants that is playing backwards. The footage is desaturated, out of focus and has soft quality lighting; connoting the bleak lives of the people in the video. It has a non-linear narrative; and is also focused on one man in particular, who is the sole person who is going forward, representing that he is the only one going forward in life. The mise en scene was another thing that intruiged me about this music video, due to the old fashioned costume and time setting used.
